YACHT – “Utopia” / “Paradise Engineering”

DFA just released Shangri-La, the new album from poppy upstarts YACHT. They sound more and more like a DFA band with every release since the glitchy laptop-pop of 2007’s I Believe In You. Your Magic Is Real. (Which I saw him play when he opened for LCD Soundsystem in Boston in May 2007.) On “Paradise Engineering” especially, there’s some winning LCD Soundsystem vibes — check the crisp disco drums, funky bass, and cowbell onslaught, paired with some hilarious lyrics about “the world’s last unpleasant experience.” The album’s opener, “Utopia”, is a delightfully upbeat concoction as well. Check them both out below.
