Talking Heads – “Crosseyed and Painless”

Talking Heads: great band, right? At least that’s what I hear the kids are saying. But for as long as I’ve been a Heads fan (I think my parents bought me Speaking in Tongues when I was a sophomore in high school), I hadn’t really given a close listen to Remain in Light, the 1980 album that is often regarded as the group’s best. But I listened to it twice through yesterday and it absolutely knocked my socks off. It’s hard to choose, but my favorite might be “Crosseyed and Painless,” which I knew previously as a highlight from live document The Name of This Band is Talking Heads and the titanic closer to Jonathan Demme’s titanic 1983 concert film Stop Making Sense. Well, the studio version doesn’t disappoint either. Listen to it below, and listen to the album all the way through the first chance you get.
