Todd Terje – “Ragysh”

As my brother will tell you, I’ve been listening to this song non-stop for the past week or so. It’s an exemplary piece of that great genre they call space disco and there’s something delightfully old-fashioned about it–it seems like music an episode of CSI might use for a scene where the detectives go into a 90s club that’s playing trance techno.

But that goofiness doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take it seriously. The ebb/flow and buildups/breakdowns of this track are absolutely KILLER. The first half draws you in, but it gets even better when the beat drops out around the halfway mark and then gradually rebuilds itself, before surging back into full throttle in the sixth minute. Reminds me of some of the less minimal stuff The Field was doing on Yesterday and Today, like “Sequenced” and “Leave It.”

Give it a listen. And turn it up loud.
