A couple of thrillingly weird music videos

It’s good to see people still doing awesome things with music videos.  Goes to show you should never say a particular medium or form is “dead”.

The first is for an abridged version of LCD Soundsystem’s “Pow Pow”.  Anna Kendrick stars — I wasn’t crazy about Up in the Air but I’ve gotta give her some credit for her acting skills, and she’s awesome here.  I wasn’t sure where this was going for the first minute or so but it gets really fantastic — and is that a Twin Peaks homage at the end there, with all that red velvet and checkered flooring?  Check it out at MTV’s site.

#2 is for a pair of adjacent songs — “Monday Morning” and “Monongah, WV” — off of Weekend’s awesome new album Sports. If you haven’t heard this album, check out the single, “End Times”.  The video makes great use of images and suburbia and creepy masks to create something darkly seductive — real Donnie Darko stuff.  It’s up at pitchfork.tv.
